Wrong Pump
A wrong pump is one which is too small for the task.
Similar to wrong nozzle it is possible to
have a pump which is too small to operate the nozzles.

This is a komet 3-5T nozzle on a "typical" fountain pump, the
jet height is 160 cm. |

This is 4 komet 3-5T nozzles on a manifold operated by the same
pump as mentioned above. The jet height on each nozzle is 100 cm |
As you can see, it works fine. That is if you want only
4 jets each 1 m high. But suppose you want more jets say ten or twenty you
are going to require a bigger pump if you want either more jets or higher
than 1 m.

This is 10 komet 3-5T nozzles on a manifold operated by the same
pump as previously mentioned. The jet height is now only 15cm. |
In short, the more nozzles you have for a given pump the
lower each jet height will be. It is also why spray rings will not work on
a pump which is too small, and some require two or more pumps.
It is also a similar case if you have a pump with a high
pressure but low flow rate, these type of pumps are often used to pump
water from deep wells, they need the high pressure to get the water up
from the bottom of the well but they do not pump a large quantity of water
since in most cases they fill a storage tank for later use.
