Pump for a water feature?
Pump for a water feature, or existing fountain? read
this.
A pump for a water feature, or fountain. be it old
or new we can help, it is usually not a problem, provided we are given all the
information required. i.e., number of outlets, diameter of outlets,
quantity of outlets, required jet height etc
A genuine enquiry is as follows:
Can you please advise me on the
type and cost of a pump for a fountain that consists of a 1.5M ring with
22 x 5mm nozzles on it. From your web page I assume they are komet
nozzles. The ring is 2" pipe with a short piece of 11/2" pipe to a valve. My
client requires the fountain to have a head of 2.5M.
Many thanks.
This enquiry is very good since with out asking we have
been given all the information we need.

For your reference: These are two komet 3-5T nozzles, (As the
enquirer correctly mentions)
Each has an orifice of 5mm
They are available from our
components website |
The only "problem" is that of water demand, or lack of
understanding of it. As the enquirer says, "The spray ring has 22 outlets" each
outlet is 5mm
in diameter. The "average" domestic pump when used with a komet 3-5T
(see above picture) will reach around 150 cm, possibly 250 cm in height, but, as mentioned
by the person enquiring, this spray ring has 22 individual 5mm outlets, so a domestic pump will not
achieve any where near the required height, it will only be capable of
around 10 -15 cm in height on each nozzle, nowhere near the required 200
cm. The only pump we could supply that
meets the required water demand for 22 x 5mm outlets is way over the budget of £299

This is a 2m diameter ring we supplied. It has 56 2.5mm outlet
nozzles, to achieve a jet height of 2 metres (as shown in the
picture) it uses 2 of our big pumps, via 2 inlets
Yes, 1 pump could only make all jets 1 metre high.

Another example

Another enquiry we had was for a replacement pump for this
dandelion fountain, these do have a very high water demand a
replacement pump was considerably more than expected. (several £k)
We also supply dandelion fountains, which are on our
components website
(See the nozzles section) |
As far as we can tell, in both the above cases the potential
client was offered the fountain for "next to nothing" (We don't blame any
one for that.) But please check with us first as to how much a replacement
pump will cost as it will probably be more than you think.
We also had any enquiry from some one who wanted a new pump for an
existing fountain, The existing pump had given up after 15 months use, it
turned out to be a sump pump, sump pumps are not designed to run for long
times, we suggested a suitable pump which used less electricity (saves
money) is slightly more powerful, he never brought one because as in his
opinion "it costs
too much" as far as we know he brought another sump pump. A pump
from us would have out lasted his sump pump by YEARS and even though it
costs more initially, he would also save on his running costs, and not
have to keep buying a new pump every 15 months. No helping some folk.
